LIT 30th issue launch featuring Lynn Melnick, Myung Mi Kim & Hafizah Geter with music by Joanna Sternberg & Jack Donovan

Lynn Melnick is the author of If I Should Say I Have Hope, named a Top 40 Poetry Book of 2012 by Coldfront Magazine. She teaches poetry at the 92nd Street Y and works with VIDA: Women in Literary Arts. She grew up in Los Angeles and currently lives in Brooklyn.

Joanna Sternberg is a musician and visual artist from New York City. They attended The Mannes College of Music and The New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music. https://www.joannasternberg.com/

Born in Zaria, Nigeria, Hafizah Geter received her BA in English & Economics from Clemson University, and her MFA in Poetry from Columbia College Chicago. She currently lives in Brooklyn, New York. Hafizah is a Cave Canem Fellow and was a semi-finalist for the 2010 “Discovery” / Boston Review Contest. Her poem "paula" received an Honorable Mention in RHINO's 2011 Editors' Prize. A 2013 Blacksmith House Emerging Writer, recipient of a 2012 Amy Award from Poets & Writers, and a finalist in the Fifth Annual Narrative Magazine Poetry Prize, her poems have appeared or are forthcoming in Linebreak, Narrative Magazine, Gulf Coast, Boston Review, Los Angeles Review of Books, and The New Yorker, among others. She was a 2014 Ruth Lilly Poetry Fellowship Finalist.
Hafizah also serves on the board of VIDA: Women in the Literary Arts, co-curates the reading series EMPIRE with Ricardo Maldonado, is a poetry editor at Phantom Books and was formerly an assistant editor at YesYes Books. She is on the poetry committee and book ends committee for the Brooklyn Book Festival and is the Vice President of the AWP Women's Caucus. She has previously worked for Cave Canem and PEN America and is currently the Content Editor & Publicity Coordinator at Poets House. afizah is a 2016-2017 PEN America PEN Ten guest editor. https://www.hafizahgeter.com/

Jack Donovan of Museyroom is a musician from Brooklyn, NY. 

MYUNG MI KIM was born in Seoul, Korea. She immigrated with her family to the United States at the age of nine and was raised in the Midwest. She earned a BA from Oberlin College, an MA from The Johns Hopkins University, and an MFA from the University of Iowa. Her collection of poems Under Flag (1991) won the Multicultural Publishers Exchange Award of Merit; subsequent collections include The Bounty (1996), DURA (1999), Commons (2002), River Antes (2006), and Penury (2009). 
An avant-garde poet who often employs fragmentary language and uses the white space of the page, Myung Mi Kim explores issues of dislocation, colonization, immigration, loss of her first language, and the fallout of history in her work. 
Myung Mi Kim is the subject of the book The Subject of Building Is a Process / Light Is an Element: essays and excursions for Myung Mi Kim (2008). She has taught at San Francisco State University and in the Poetics Program at SUNY Buffalo.
